How can we help?

Stuck, found a bug, or want your data deleted? Email us at support@getspot.live and we’ll get back to you as soon as we can. The answers below cover the most common questions.

Getting started

  • Install SPOT from the Chrome Web Store: click Add to Chrome, then Add extension. It works in Google Chrome on your computer.
  • Pin it: click the puzzle icon in Chrome’s toolbar, then the pin next to SPOT.
  • Sign in: right-click the SPOT icon, choose Options, and sign in with your email or Google. You can look around and chat as a guest, but you need an account to save highlights, comments and other posts, to like posts and to join voice.
  • Open the SPOT sidebar on any page with Ctrl+Shift+Y (Cmd+Shift+Y on a Mac). Create a Spot and share its invite link to bring your friends.

Handy shortcuts

  • Ctrl+Shift+Y (Cmd+Shift+Y on a Mac): open or close the sidebar.
  • Alt+C (Option+C on a Mac): cursor chat, typed right at your cursor.
  • Ctrl+Shift+click (Cmd+Shift+click on a Mac): the quick menu for reactions, cursor chat and drawing.

Troubleshooting

SPOT doesn’t show up on a page

  • Reload the tab. Pages that were already open when you installed SPOT need a refresh.
  • Check that SPOT is switched on in its toolbar menu.
  • Chrome doesn’t let extensions run on its own pages, such as the new tab page and settings, or on the Chrome Web Store.

I can’t see my friends

  • You see each other when you’re on the same page address and in the same Spot, or when you’re both in that page’s public space.
  • Make sure SPOT and Live cursors are switched on for both of you.

Voice isn’t working

  • Voice needs you to be signed in.
  • The first time you join, SPOT opens a small window where Chrome asks for permission to use your microphone. Allow it, then click Join again.
  • Push-to-talk is on by default: hold V to talk, or switch to open mic in the voice settings.

Sign-in problems

  • Sign out from the account page and sign in again.
  • If that doesn’t help, email us with the address you signed up with.

Your data

  • Switch SPOT off from its toolbar menu at any time. If you’re in a voice call, click Leave first, because switching SPOT off doesn’t end the call.
  • You can delete your own highlights, comments and other posts inside SPOT.
  • To get a copy of your data, or to delete your account and everything linked to it, email support@getspot.live from the address on your account. We aim to respond within 30 days.
  • The privacy policy explains what SPOT collects and who can see it.

Uninstalling SPOT

Right-click the SPOT icon and choose Remove from Chrome, or open chrome://extensions and click Remove under SPOT. This removes everything SPOT keeps on your computer. It doesn’t delete your account or what you posted on our servers; email us and we’ll delete that.

Report a bug or a security issue

Email support@getspot.live with what happened, the page you were on, and your Chrome version. For security issues, put “Security” in the subject line and please don’t share the details publicly until we’ve fixed it.
